How to Care for Your Cake Once it's Been Delivered

Not sure how to travel with your cake or keep it fresh once it's been delivered? Theresa has all of the information you need to take care of your cake. From how to store your cake, to information on freezing, heating, and thawing other sweet treats, you'll find all the answers right here.

Travelling with your Cake

Need to transport your cake to another venue? Here are some tips to help you when travelling with your precious cargo:

  • Place your cake on a flat surface, usually on the front floor of the passenger side with the aircon facing down.
  • Take corners slowly and come up to stop lights slowly.
  • Try not to place other objects around the cake that may fall into the cake or make the cake too hot.
  • Make sure your air conditioner is on the lowest it will go.

You will find Theresa's contact details on each order, so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch. And if the idea of transporting your special cake is too much for the nerves, don't forget that Theresa also delivers to select areas.

You can check out TMF's delivery days and locations below.

Fridge Storage

To keep your cake as fresh as possible, we recommend that all TMF Cake Designs products be stored in the fridge. But each cake is different, so please refer to the specific cake instructions given on your cake box when you pick it up or it is delivered.

All products are best enjoyed at room temp and consumed between 3 - 5 days after delivery or pick up.

Freezer Freshness

TMF Wedding and Celebration Custom Cakes are baked fresh, which means you have the option to freeze your cake up to the recommended time frames below, depending on the type of cake you have ordered:

  • Butter cakes with buttercream are best frozen fresh and can be kept in the freezer for 3 months.
  • Mud cakes can be frozen for up to 3-6 months.
  • Fruit cakes can be frozen for up to 12 months.

If you have a Fondant cake, you'll want to follow these instructions:

  • Take all non-edible items off the cake
  • Wrap your cake carefully in glad wrap and then place it in a container that is airtight.
  • Before closing the lid, place 2 layers of glad wrap over the top of the container and then close the lid.
  • Wrap the whole container in glad wrap 2 times to help keep moisture from entering the container when defrosting (This step is optional, but recommended as an extra layer of safeguard).
  • Place your cake container in the freezer.

It's that easy. Please contact us if you have any further questions regarding your cake.

How to Store Other Sweet Treats

Royal and fondant cookies are all placed individually in heat-sealed bags. If you need to store your cookies before your event, they are best stored in a dry, cool environment, away from sunlight.

  • Cupcakes are best eaten within 3 - 5 days from the time of collection and should be stored in the refrigerator unless other directions have been given to you upon pickup.
  • If you have fondant toppers and you have stored these in the fridge beforehand, take the box from the fridge and leave it on the bench unopened until the cupcakes have reached room temperature
  • Open the box and enjoy.

Our Macarons are made fresh for all custom orders and are best eaten within 3 - 5 days from pickup. Depending on the filling you choose they are best kept in the fridge in the box you purchased them in, away from moisture. When you take them out of the fridge keep them in the box until they have reached room temp.

If you need to freeze any of the above products, please contact Theresa before doing so.

As we all know, the rule with doughnuts is FRESH IS BEST!! We create all our doughnuts the morning you require your order and they are best eaten on the same day. However, if you do happen to have leftovers, we do recommend zapping them in the microwave for a few seconds - they just need a bit of heating up to freshen them back up.
