TMF Cake Designs | Wedding Cake Guide

When preparing for your wedding cake, Theresa's goal for you, is that your cake journey to be an enjoyable part of getting ready for your special day. This guide is a great starting point that delivers essential information to guide and help in choosing the right size, style, and flavour for your wedding cake, making sure every guest receives a delicious piece.

1. Understanding your guest count

Total Guests - Start with your finalised guest list to determine how many serves you will need. Consider adding 5-10% to your total to accomodate any unexpected guests.

2. Serving Size

A Standard Wedding Cake slice is typically 1" x 2" if you are offering additional desserts you may want to serve smaller slices Also consider if you would like your cake to be plated as a dessert option or served on a platter for your guests to enjoy with a tea/coffee.

3. Cake Size Guide

This is an approx serving guide to give you an idea of what size cakes you may want to consider to serve. Based on 5" high cakes. I do offer other sizes and shapes, but this gives you a starting point.

6" Round - Approx. 20 guests

8" Round - Approx. 30 guests

10" Round - Approx 45 guests

12" Round - Approx 65 guests

14" Round - Approx 85 guests

16" Round - Approx 100 guests

Your servings will be based on your design but the above sizes give you an idea of how many sizes you will approximate have per cake size.

4. Choosing the Right Design

Multi-tier Cakes - Consider a multi tiered cake to create that stunning visual centre piece. Each tier can feature different flavours or designs. Multi tiered cakes are perfect to mix various sizes to meet your serving needs, while enhancing the cake's aesthetic appeal.

5. Cake Stands

I do have a few wedding cake stands available to hire when ordering our cakes - Which will include a cash bond refundable on collection and a small hire fee.

6. Cutting Cakes

Display vs. Cutting Cake - Some couple choose to have a small decorative cake for the reception's visual appeal, while a larger "cutting (Kitchen) cakes kept behind the scenes for serving. Ask about our options when enquiring about your Wedding Cake

7. Flavour and Style Options

I always use high-quality, fresh ingredients for all TMF Products - Explore a range of flavors to impress your guests. Choose from classic vanilla, rich chocolate, fruity options, or try something unique - The overall flavors will be discussed based on your needs.

Our Cake Taster boxes are available in March and August each year. Pre order yours now to find out which flavours you like to have in your wedding cake.

8. Design Inspirations

Look for design inspiration that resonates with your wedding theme. Whether elegant, rustic, or modern, the cake should reflect your personal style.

9. Consultation

Collaborate with your Cake Designer/Baker and schedule a consultation early in your planning process. This is when valuable insights based on their expertise and help finalise the size, flavour & design.

10. Cake Density

Have a think about the type of cake you want. While dense cakes may yield few servings they are also a richer cake so will need a smaller serving anyway (Maybe) - We will go over this in our consult to help you better decide the right fit for your day.

11. Budget

Set a budget for your cake, considering the size, complexity of design and flavours. This helps me to look into design options with your budget

Custom Wedding Cakes usually start around the $600 - $1200 mark.
